Talk: 6 “Small” Steps for Confluent: How Confluent has made giant leaps in 6 years

Abstract:
When Confluent was founded 6 years ago, the Apache Kafka ecosystem comprised of the broker and a few low level client implementations. This talk will cover 6 areas we’ve made big improvements or additions, combining the history of our journey with details of technical features and design decisions that transformed a “high throughput distributed messaging system” in 2014 into the complete event streaming platform it is today.

Bio:
Ewen Cheslack-Postava is an Apache Kafka committer and engineer at Confluent building an event streaming platform based on Apache Kafka to help organizations reliably and robustly capture and leverage all their real-time data. He received his PhD from Stanford University in distributed systems for efficiently displaying dynamic, large scale graphical environments.

Online Meetup Etiquette:
•Please unmute yourself when you have a question.
•Please hold your questions until the end of the presentation or use the zoomchat!
•Please arrive on time as zoom meetings can become locked for many reasons (though if you get locked out a recording will be available, but you may have to wait a little while for it!)
