Code for Good DC Hack Night — Voices of Consent

This meetup is an open source project hack night. Come join us to work on projects and open issues from Ruby for Good 2019 (https://github.com/rubyforgood). For the next few months, we’re going to host hack nights dedicated to one project at a time. Feel free to join us even if you’re not sure you can contribute and are curious about the projects.

This week, we’re going to focus on the Voices of Consent project (https://github.com/rubyforgood/voices-of-consent/). This is a project where victims of abuse can reach out to someone sympathetic to their problems. People can request and receive care packages designed by others who have been through a similar experience. The project is at a pivotal point in its development, and this event will focus on helping them with the key features they need to finish to make the site useful.

The Voices of Consent project has a JavaScript React frontend and a Ruby on Rails API. We’ll have tasks for people for all range of skills and knowledge. If you’ve a lot of experience with either framework, we could use your help for a good cause. If you’re new to these technologies, this might be a good first project.

Please bring your laptop or come prepared to pair. We will be working individually and together on open issues.

If you can’t join us and would still like to help, please let us know. Depending on interest and how much we get done this month, we may host another meetup for this project later in the year. You can also join our team of remote developers who work on these non-profit and charitable projects throughout the year.

Come help us do some good 🙂
