Workshop Description:

This workshop is for anyone interested in exploring the basics of Data Analytics. Whether you’re new to Tableau and data visualization, or you’re curious to explore Galvanize’s Data Analytics Track more thoroughly, this class is for you!

The format will be interactive, with the instructor demonstrating how to create specific example visualizations within Tableau, followed by time for the students to replicate the visualizations and ask questions. Throughout the course, there will also be several breakout sessions where the students will create a new visualization from scratch utilizing techniques covered in earlier demonstrations. Topics covered will include connecting to data with Tableau, creating your first visualization, exploring data with Tableau, communicating your results with dashboards on the web, and much more!

Computer Requirements:

You will need to bring a laptop to participate in this interactive workshop. Please note that Tableau is only offered for Mac or Windows at this time. If you have a Linux machine, you can choose to work in a virtual environment, but instructor support for this option will be limited.

Before You Attend:

Download Tableau:
–Recommended: Tableau Desktop (free trial)
–If you are an instructor of any kind, you can obtain a free one year license: tableau.com/academic/teaching
–If you are a student of any kind, you can obtain a free one year license: tableau.com/academic/students
–Note: If you are not in one of the categories above your free trial will be only 14 days. To preserve that trial for the future, download and install Tableau Public instead as described in the next option below. If you want to proceed with the 14 day free trial of Tableau Desktop, download it here:

Create a Tableau Public account:

–You can use this account with either the Tableau Public laptop app, the Tableau Desktop app or Tableau Desktop Pro app
–You will use this account to upload your visualizations to the web
